Happy Mother's Day!

I thought of this this morning; the ultimate Mother's Day Song?

JAMES JAMES MORRISON MORRISON
from AA Milne
The Kingston Trio

James James Morrison Morrison Weatherby George DuPree
Took great care of his mother though he was only three
James James said to his mother:
"Mother," he said, said he
"You must never go down to the end of the town,
if you don't go down with me.
Don't ever go down to the end of the town,
if you don't go down with me."

James James Morrison's mother put on her golden gown
James James Morrison's mother, she drove to the end of the town
James James Morrison's mother
She said to herself, said she
"Well, I can get down to the end of the town
And be back in time for tea.
Well, I can get down to the end of the town
And be back in time for tea."

King John put up a notice: "Lost, stolen or strayed,
James James Morrison's mother,
She seems to have been mislaid
Wandering vaguely all about quite of her own accord
She tried to get down to the end of the town--
Forty shillings reward.
She tried to get down to the end of the town--
Forty shillings reward.

James James Morrison Morrison, commonly known as "Jim"
Said to his other relations not to go blaming him
For James James said to his mother
"Mother", he said, said he
"Don't ever go down to the end of the town,
If you don't go down with me.
You must never go down to the end of the town,
If you don't go down with me."

Now James James Morrison's mother,
She hasn't been heard of since,
King John sent down to give his regrets,
And so did the queen and the prince,
King John, somebody told me,
Said to a man he knew,
"If people go down to the end of the town,
Well what can anyone do?
If people go down to the end of the town,
Well what can anyone do?"

Okay, "Linkmeister"..
I am not familiar with James James Morrison Morrison--I thought you were gonna post something by Jim Morrison i.e., "The End" which really wasn't such a nice story about his mom.
Do I have to wear khaki pants (worn short),white socks, and penny loafers plus getta buzz cut and carry a guitar in order to understand this song?
Hmmmm..his mother was gonna do what the heck she wanted to do, no matter what her son said. ?

Hmm...you have to go back to Milne (Pooh, remember?) and either "When We Were Very Young" or "Now We Are Six" to find it, I think. If you could search for Kingston Trio Mp3's you might find it; it's a lovely bouncy melody.

Hey! What happened to the comment I left yesterday? *grumble grumble*

Anyway, I dig AA Milne. :)

I like it. The innocence & wisdom of james of three, contrasting with the harsh realities of the end of town.

lol toxiclabrat, Milne's poem brought the same thing to mind for me, too re: Jim Morrison's The End (and how it wasn't such a good song about his mom).

One of my dad's business contacts is the grandson of AA Milne or maybe cousin once removed. Something like that.

I believe the entire meaning is summed up in King John's comment, "If people go down to the end of the town, well what can anyone do?"
