Morning Stevie :)
Posted by: Monique at June 30, 2002 11:19 PMno wonder the rest of the world hates the US ... sheesh ...
Posted by: shelley at July 1, 2002 05:57 AMWhat I want to know is this: since we oppose the ICC and don't really seem to want to recognize its legitimacy, what happens when the EU wants an American tried in the ICC?

Posted by: ali at July 1, 2002 07:40 AMThe stated reason, Monique, is a concern that American soldiers and diplomatic personnel might be subject to "frivolous" legal proceedings brought for purely political reasons. I suspect there's a purely nationalist underpinning to it, having to do with "sovereignty." The recent attempts to indict Israel's Sharon and Kissinger play on those feelings.
