Psst, buddy! Wanna buy a football team?

In a follow-up to an earlier post, the cold weather apparently compelled the Bushies to increase funding for heating oil for the poor. And the sound and fury about the TIA apparently convinced the Senate to demand a detailed report by the Bush administration on the program's goals and how it would be used; all work would have to stop unless the report is given to the Senate within 60 days. That means the Senate suddenly recognized civil liberties, after 16 months of watching Ashcroft and his acolytes usurp them. Maybe now they'll revisit some aspects of the Patriot Act (yeah, right).

Suppose the Raiders decided to go public? Here's the (satirical) red herring. Speaking of red herrings, here's a top-ten list of most annoying spam messages of 2002. I don't know about you, but I got a bunch of each type on the list.

Where's my all-time fave, "Increase penis size, guaranteed"? Is that just, like, totally 2001? Or am I the only one who apparently still needs a bigger one?

I'm just sayin'....

Gee, deborah, if hotmail missed those, they were the only ones it missed, judging from my experience with it.

Shelley, maybe those ads are targeted more specifically? You got your gender posted on a highly-trafficked site? ;)

I swear to God, TIA is just about the most intrusive program ever created, and it might have just had good intentions, but it's a perfect example of politicians being completely out of touch with the reality of the world and being completely reactionary by overcompensating.

All too common. And maybe it might be something worth doing to some extent, but it's what it spur its usage for. Not to mention the evil power it can have and the things it can be done with if power hungry politicians or administrators can wield it if they ever wanted to.

Too dangerous in the end.
