Not again, dammit

I've seen this movie before. I've replenished my battery supplies and checked the canned tuna/deviled ham cupboard, inspected the back yard for hanging plants, and tried to reassure my mother about Hurricane Jimena; who's gonna reassure me?

Don't worry -- it doesn't have a Hawaiian name, so it won't do any damage. Sheesh. Dontcha know the proper lore, Linky? :P

Get a big ol' bottle of mosquito repellant, just in case: those buggers are really eeeevil when the hurricane ends, they just bite, bite, bite.

Somehow we have acquired 7 (seven, count 'em) cans of Off; I think we'll be ok with that. ;)

Have you put big masking tape X's on all the windows?

I kind of miss hurricane season in FL, with tracking maps printed on all the paper grocery bags from the Publix, and the same festive atmosphere you get with tornado near-misses down there and impending snowstorms up here in the Great Frozen North. I had the luxury of being pretty far inland, though. Gainesville never took any real damage from a hurricane, but Cedar Key usually wound up full of news anchors standing waist-deep in water.

Funny how severe weather isn't quite as much fun now that I own property.

Did the masking tape ten years ago (see the first link). It did nothing for us but tear off film (of course, if we'd taken a strong hit it might have done more).

We're about 800 feet up and 2 miles from Pearl Harbor, so all(?) we need to worry about is wind and rain.

"Batten down the hatches!"

I did!

"Well, batten them down again. We'll teach those hatches!"
