Current and upcoming events here include, besides the Merrie Monarch Festival, the Pacific Alliance Gymnastics Championships, which ended last night (see here for results), the Honolulu Triathlon, and the Hawaii World Invitational Lion Dance Championship next month. The winners of the Triathlon lock up two of six spots (male and female) for the Olympics this summer; the gymnasts are expected to be among the frontrunners at the Olympic trials later this year. If you've never seen lion dance, it's a sight. This is not your "one guy in the head and seven in the body dance around the street" sort of stuff; it's leaping from pedestal to pedestal, ten feet or so above ground. It's amazing. A good month for sports, I'd say.
