Oy! You can't change that!

I stumbled out to the mailbox this morning, and what to my wondering eyes did appear but (no, not reindeer, wrong poem) but a completely-changed newspaper! The paper's whiter (and, the publisher claims, cleaner...I'll believe that when it doesn't come off on my hands), the typefaces are different, and the colors are brighter. This was a helluva shock before I'd even poured a cup of coffee, I'll tell you.

Now if they'd pour the same amount of energy into their website, particularly their weak-to-useless search engine...

They'd been warning us about it for a while, but I didn't expect that the biggest change would turn out to be the oddly huge margins ... I wonder what the advantage of doing that is? Does it mean they don't have to line the paper up as precisely, since there's now a little "wiggle room"? Hmm.

At least they didn't mess with the comics -- I hate it when that happens. ;)

Sue, there's an explanation for that here. It has to do with them using the old presses; they haven't cut over to the new ones quite yet.

Ohhhh ... so the new paper will eventually be smaller? Interesting.
