Hidebound by tradition

I'm reading (see below), and a qualifying regional for the College World Series is on the tube as background noise. Have I ever said how much I loathe the sound of aluminum bats as a ball is hit?

Hey, use it for mosquitos, roaches, whatever; just keep it away from baseball!

"Clink!"

What? that doesn't do it for ya?

Yeah, I know. And having watched more than a few inning of Gusball at Disch-Falk field in Austin (go Horns, go!!!), it doesn't sound any better in person. Not nearly as endearing as the "crack" of a real bat. But, hey, at least the collegiate brand of baseball has a bit of a soul left, unlike the pros.
sigh.

I usually make it to Les Murakami Stadium once a year (best view in college baseball; Diamond Head directly beyond the centerfield wall), but we missed it this season.

I feel that way about pro basketball more than I do about baseball. I find no reason to watch the NBA, but I'll watch the NCAA tournament all week.
