Sports notes

Six in a row? The mind boggles. Now let's see Armstrong win when he's got a canvas bag with forty newspapers inside it balanced on his handlebars, like I used to do. He needs some sort of handicap, doesn't he?

More congratulatory notes go to Molly and The Eck, as they were inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame today.

Breaking News: Senator Kerry announces on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball (Yankees-Red Sox -- he's at the game) that he doesn't like the designated hitter rule. He just got the baseball traditionalist vote.

I love the idea of handicapping some of these guys who win anything more than once ... sounds like a good plan across the board. Newspapers are great, and if he still wins with those, he gets to pull a trailer with children in it like I used to!

They do it for horseracing, right? Lead plates in the cloth under the saddle, as I recall.

Anything to the allegations of "blood doping" that I've been hearing?

As I understand it, Armstrong has been the most tested cyclist in history (ok, slightly hyperbolic, but...) and has never tested positive for anything. I think the accusations are along the lines of "Nobody's ever done anything like this, so it must be drug-aided."

Given what Ruth did to home run records, I wonder if he was accused of the same kind of thing back in the 1920s.

I personally don't approve of some of his life choices (but, easy to say that when none of us are aware of the details of said "private" life), and I've heard it said that he can be less than the nicest guy in the room, but you cannot deny that the man can ride a bike. And if he were juiced they'd have found proof by now. He's just an amazing physical specimen.
