Holy cow!

Outlined against a blue-black October night, the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as Famine, Pestilence, Destruction and Death. These are only aliases. Their real names are Schilling, Timlin, Arroyo and Foulke. They formed the crest of the Fenway cyclone before which another fighting Yankee baseball team was swept over the precipice at the House That Ruth Built yesterday afternoon as 55,000 spectators peered down on the bewildering panorama spread on the green plain below.

Yesterday, on a cold and misty night in the Bronx, the Boston nine exorcised some of their demons, at the same time vanquishing their hated Nemesis. Their shaggy-haired lineup, loaded with Damons and Variteks, Cabreras and Nixons, battered the New York Yankees with multiple four-baggers and a remarkable effort from their forgotten hurler, Mr. Lowe.

What a glorious comeback.

(Apologies to Grantland Rice.)

I was SO tired last night, but I was afraid to go to bed. Afraid that it would end badly. Afraid they couldn't hold it, not even when they had 8 runs. It's not enough, it's never enough against THEM. But it was! Now, the dilemma -- Houston v Boston? I'm almost wishing the Cards win today so I don't have to make that choice. *Almost*

I think it's terrific that Boston won. It was satisfying to watch Joe Torre get pissy with the reporter afterwards. The Yankees are the best team money can buy, you know. ;)

The only thing that irritated me is when Lowe was yanked and replaced with Martinez, I mean; how much more effective can you be than Lowe was?

I have yet to see an explanation for putting Martinez in. Lowe had had only two days rest, so pulling him might be understandable, but then why Pedro? It just inflamed the crowd and cost the Sox two runs, along with re-igniting every jangly nerve in New England. I didn't get it either.
