High school memories

It's the dead of winter (ok, not till December 21, but what the heck), so what better time to remember the senior class trip?

My high school in Northern Virginia was brand new when I entered as a freshman, so our senior class was the first which had spent all four years there. We were the first class which was allowed to take an overnight class trip, and we were very excited about it. Out of a class of 250 or so, I'd guess 120-150 actually went. In late May or early June of 1968 we piled into buses (no air travel for us!) and drove to Sodom and Gomorrah New York City. I still don't see quite how we managed all this in one evening, but we had dinner (pretty bad, but then I wasn't then and am not now all that much of an Italian food fan) at Mama Leone's before we headed off to see There's a Girl in My Soup. (Note: the play apparently closed two months later, and Mama Leone's is long gone too; I maintain that was not our fault!) That was the memorable part of the trip; we bused to Atlantic City (this was the pre-gambling era there) and stayed overnight in a hotel with a pool on the roof, then drove back to metropolitan DC the following morning.

In retrospect, I think the school administrators and our parents deserve admiration; I don't think we had more than two or three teacher/chaperones along, and the most serious trouble we got into was staying up too late carousing in that pool.

Who's got a class trip to remember?

Gads, wish I could remember! But like you my class was the first to graduate from a new high school. It was bitter sweet as we were split in half just before our senior year with each half headed to a newly built high school ( back then high school had just three grade levels so the impact was much less on the incoming junior class) - the old school which resembled a Greek city on a hill - with the architecture to match ( huge columns, etc.) is now part of the city college. But ironically I think we simply went to Disneyland - about a thirty minute drive from our point of departure (Riverside Calif.). However, as I recall my class became alittle bolder as there was some kind of cruise around Catalina Island for one of the class reunions (which I did not attend since I then lived in Michigan)!

We had a class picnic towards the end of my senior year, at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (maybe a 45-minute ride from school). I remember riding over with some classmates rather than taking a bus, and there was definitely drinking going on (although I don't remember participating).

I went on a lot of band trips, too, which were always more elaborate and offered greater opportunities for skullduggery.

My senior class in high school didn't have a class trip. We rebelled at everything-it was the 60's.
I do remember my 8th grade class trip to Rye Playland in Rye, NY (Natch!)
I liked a guy named Claude and he sat on our bus to Rye making out with a girl whose name I can't remember anymore. She had quite a large chest and his hands were all over her...
I sat and watched them and felt "small" in more ways than one.
Little did I know that this would be a precursor to my lot in life.... :^{

I grew up in one the more primitive parts of the Catskills. New York City was sin central. Instead, we got to go on retreat even further into the woods. Fed tainted venison while I watched my feckless boyfriend make out with another girl and I seem to recall little bottles of southern comfort, which didn't help the venision problem. I certainly do remember it, though.
