Who hates SocSec and why?

Here's one of the best explanations of how Social Security came about, why it was (and is) hated by conservatives, and what the merits of its projections have been (pretty good, on average).

And, contrary to widespread belief, recent demographic trends have been modestly better (from an actuary's gloomy standpoint) than anticipated. For instance, longevity hasn't increased as much as expected. Partly as a result, since 1997 the agency has pushed back, by 13 years, the date at which it projects its reserves will be exhausted.

Well. The fact that we DON'T HAVE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE (we are indeed, not even in the top 40, IIRC, in life expectancy) and never will as long as Republicans breathe and have any power, means we WILL ALWAYS TO BE AFFORD SOCIAL SECURITY!!! It's a good news/bad news thing (though, for Republicans, the good news is that we are not living longer and the bad news is that we will be able to afford social security. These reflect their sound moral and family values, of course.
