Rosa Parks, 1913 - 2005
Never have so many owed so much to one woman.
I read somewhere else that today is also the anniversary of Paul Wellstone's death. October is a bad month.

Posted by: shelley at October 25, 2005 06:57 AMWhat's really scary is that I reference her name now & again, when it's relevant to the conversation, and you wouldn't believe how many people (particularly young people) don't know who the heck she is!!
Posted by: Chloe at October 27, 2005 08:48 PMWell, Parks never made a fuss about herself, so I suppose it's not entirely unreasonable that she'd be lesser known than some of the other civil rights leaders. Ask 'em if they know who Stokely Carmichael is. :)
Example: until I read the obituary I had no idea she'd spent 20-something years or so working in John Conyer's office.
