Snicker

Now that was amusing. Bush said last year Congress failed to act on his proposal to save Social Security, and all the Democrats stood and applauded wildly.

Heh.

Update: He also said this:

Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research: human cloning in all its forms; creating or implanting embryos for experiments; creating human-animal hybrids; and buying, selling or patenting human embryos.

Human-animal hybrids?

Who speaks for the chimeras?

Update 2: PZ Myers explains that there is in fact some human-to-animal research going on. It shows promise in understanding Down's syndrome. That's interesting, but dollars-to-donuts that nobody in the White House knew that before the line in the speech was written.

If I were Bush, I would have waited for the wild applause to subside, then turned to that side of the chamber, given them a stare, and then turned back to the camera and said "Remember that applause 13 years from now when Social Security goes broke."

Pix, if you don't know the facts about the Social Security Fund by now, Google 'em. ;)

I'd like to take that Bush and bring him to some of my Transplant Support Meetings.
There he can meet people who are dying while waiting for an organ.
An organ that wouldn't have to be transplanted if we did embryonic cell tranplants. You can bet your bottom dollar that if one of his family members needs an organ, he'd change his mind. He would search hi and lo for one, including going to another country.

Indeed I know the facts . . my point is that the "loyal opposition" had then, and has now, nothing to offer.

Besides, the cheering acknowledgement of their own obstuctionism was just tacky.

Like the purple heart bandaids last year was polite?

And what good does it do the Democrats to offer anything when it gets trashed in secret conference committees?
