An existential question

A thought on the occasion of venturing out to the local bookstore:

If it's been proven that at some point I'm gonna shuffle off this mortal coil, why do I keep trying to assimilate information through buying and reading a gazillion newspapers and books and acquiring and listening to music?

To make your time on this coil more enjoyable, of course!

Because, you rock! (And, I can ask you questions, and you know stuff.)

Because one day your nieces will love you for having done that. :)

Books and papers are because your a junkie - I am too. When I was childless I actually came close to being evicted because I just had to buy dmaged but signed copy of Brave New World for a $150 - more than half my rent money.

The music is easy. Why the hell not?

Yeah, but the bulk of my vinyl collection was purchased for $2.50/album. CD prices are outrageous.

My old roomie has over 22,000 songs on his computer (he's a junkie for them) - he has turned to actuaslly paying for downloads now - about thrirty cents a song. You can't find new stuff that way but there isn't much new that's worth worrying about so who cares?
