Risk management

In an article which tells us that Bush and Cheney manage to avoid press coverage while attending fundraisers, we find this tidbit:

The Jackson Hole News & Guide found out Cheney was there only because it spotted his plane and the radar dish that serves an anti-missile battery that protects his house when he's in town. "In the past, they've been kind of weird about it," said Thomas Dewell, the paper's co-editor. "They'd say, 'His airplane's here and the missile base is here, but we can't tell you if he's here.' " This time, he said, Cheney's office confirmed his presence when asked.
An anti-missile battery? What the hell?

In this struggle with Islamofascist terrorists, I would expect such extraordinary measures of protection to be in place for the Veep, for he is certainly a tempting target.

In January 2009, I will bet that the new Veep will be so protected as well, irrespective of the Administration's political party.

Last I looked, none of those terrorists had long-range missiles. I suspect no VP had similar protection during the Cold War, when there were a whole lot of ICBMs which did have that kind of range.

Sounds as if he suffers from advanced paranoia.

Long range missles? How about shoulder-fired?

Ya never know. Maybe the VP likes to hunt rabbits with heat-seeking missiles. Given his known issues with actually hitting the correct target when he hunts, maybe they decided to install the defenses "just in case."

Pix, if the USSS doesn't have a perimeter set that's large enough to keep guys with RPGs out, they're not doing their job, right?
