Down with decorations

Ok, house, you can go back to looking drab and non-festive now.

I was tempted to keep the lights wrapped all over the big fake plant in the living-room, but then they wouldn't have felt special by the time the next Xmas came along. Besides, I usually try to set everything up the weekend before Turkey Day so it's not like we'll be light-less for that many months.

I have to keep my inner sloth in check. It's a tossup which I hate more, taking 'em down or putting 'em up. I love 'em while they're up.

My wife insists that next year we will have a new fake tree, one where the lights are built into it. I like our 10-year-old tree, ratty as she may think it is, but "Ce que femme veut, Dieu le veut." (Whatever one's wife wants, God is on her side.)

Serge, you're good for my memory. I haven't tried to translate French since I studied it all four years of high school.

We used to do two trees: an artificial one downstairs with satin balls, pearls and glass and an upstairs authentic one with all the silly ornaments. Now we just do the authentic one upstairs. Neither has built-in lights, but I can see the appeal.
