Relief in sight

Flossie was downgraded to tropical storm status overnight. At 0500HST she was about 270 miles due south of Oahu and continuing to move west at about 15mph.

Dodged that bullet.

Thanks for all the good wishes. Only 3 more months till the end of this year's hurricane season!

Oh, Linky,
I am so glad to hear you are okay...
You can always stay at my house if it happens again!

I always had the impression that severe storms out your way were rather rare. Was I mistaken?

In any case, I am quite glad to hear you dodged it, you're one of the few non-sciblogs I read. . .

DuWayne, they're not all that rare, but they rarely get too close. This one was the closest since Iniki in 1992, I think.

Last year for one brief memorable day there were four lined up in a row about 1,000 miles SE, one right after the other. Fortunately they all broke up.
