Priorities, priorities

It's an unfair comparison, but the dollar figures are so close it makes it irresistible: SecDef asks for $42B for wars juxtaposed with Bush threatens veto of children's health program over $35B.

There's your "compassionate conservatism" right there, if you still harbor any doubts as to what Bush thinks is important.

People still believed in that "compassionate conservativism" garbage he was spewing in 2000?

I wonder how many of the Repubs who are up for re-election, who currently are refusing to vote for the measure, will stand by that if he does veto? Then if Congress can't override the veto because the Democrats don't have the votes, the Dems can tee up the advertising campaign. I believe they already have it designed.

Hell, the ad agencies have probably already got the templates ready; just fill in "Representative blank's name here." And they should take shots for voting against this.
