Linda Ronstadt sings Joni Mitchell's "River."
It's a funny thing about this song. It's on Mitchell's "Blue" album, which I've owned since its release in 1971. I'd forgotten it entirely until a year or so ago, and now I think it's fantastic.
Posted by Linkmeister at December 13, 2008 09:14 PM | TrackBackI love this song and I like LR's version very much. I think my favorite cover of it is the one by Robert Downey Jr. I'll go put it up on my site.
Posted by: Karan at December 14, 2008 08:43 AMI love Linda (16-18 albums worth!), but it was a tossup between her version and Sarah McLachlan's. Linda's YouTube version was embeddable; Sarah's is not. It's here.
Posted by: Linkmeister at December 14, 2008 09:00 AMI love this, the saddest Xmas song ever.
Posted by: Scott at December 14, 2008 09:20 AMMelancholy is under-represented in Christmas music.
Posted by: Linkmeister at December 14, 2008 09:59 AMThis song was resurrected for me as I watched an episode of "Alias" a few years ago.
I just love Joni Mitchell.
James Taylor sings this song also. It is one of the slowest songs I have ever heard. I swear I think I could travel around the world and Taylor would still be singing "Handy Man"....
