Fishwrap

Remember these recycling bins? Tomorrow is day one of the new regime wherein we householders put our bin out for the city's weekly collection.

Ours is full to the brim. It has two glass jars (one pickle, one guacamole) and months of newspapers. I've been holding off taking trunkloads of papers to the old recycling containers placed at elementary schools until the bins came into use. It's about time they have; there wasn't much space left behind the bar in the family room where I've been stashing bags of Honolulu Advertisers and Star-Bulletins.

We have been recycling for years, but our bins are more like milk cartons.

I get the Sunday paper, just so I can get the coupons. It turns out that the cheapest way to have the Sunday paper delivered is to get the Thursday, Friday and Saturday papers delivered.

I was shocked at the stacks of newspaper that grew up between recycling days. Then I got the bright idea of paper-training the dog. (Long story. Short version - sane people do not attempt to re-train adult Dachshunds.) This has worked out surprisingly well, and taken care of the paper problem to boot.
