eBay sales

Have any of you had any experience selling via eBay? I'm thinking of auctioning a guitar (Rickenbacker six-string, model 360, made in November 1968):

but I'm foggy on how much I'd have to pay for the privilege of selling it there. It looks like I'd have to pay 8.5% of the sales price. Can that be right?

'Course, I'm willing to sell it without going through the eBay process, if anyone wants to buy. It's been played for maybe five hours since I bought it in 1973. It has a Maple-Glo finish and crushed pearl inlays, and it has two toaster pickups. It's also got the tremolo bar and a Ric-o-Sound plug, and I have two sets of spare strings and an amp cord.

Note: that's my guitar in the picture. I have to charge the camera battery before I can upload some more shots.

Update: Photos here.

Shmoos!!! You use shmoos - on Flickr? I love shmoos!!

Man, you got class!!

Anyway, good luck with your guitar. Never used Ebay either for buying or selling, so I'm sorry that I can't give you any tips.

I use eBay, and have been successful in selling a few items. Yes, you do have to pay a commission, but if it sells at the price you want, I do suppose it is worth it. You could put a reserve on it, and also, take lots of pictures.
I haven't looked at your photos, but I am hoping (oh, soooo much!) that there are pictures of you playing said piece.
Let's see. 1973. Polyester pants. Bellbottoms with boots. Perhaps in a design. A vest. And longish hair. Covering the ears.. Am I somewhat correct???

I don't mind paying a commission, but the scale looked steep at first glance. Now that I read it more closely, though, it's not so bad.

When I bought it I was in the Navy; short hair, no mustache, jeans and t-shirts when I wasn't in uniform.

I appreciate the value of what you’ve got there, but that’s a little rich for my blood at this moment. Sho’ is nice though…

Hey, you should pitch it to this guy: PMBlues.com - Vintage guitar dealer here in RI, and he’s a Rickenbacker dealer, he’ll dig what you’ve got there.
