In celebration of the box set

The opening credits of "A Hard Day's Night."

Neddie Jingo has a wonderful disquisition covering that opening chord and follows it up with some detective work here.

You know, I saw and loved Hard Day's Night; I loved the early Beatles (frankly, they got really boring after they got religion); and I never thought anything of the introductory chord at all. I guess everybody's interested in different things. I do agree that female gearheads are quite rare; I'm a modest female gearhead for computer gear but not for electric guitars. I did find the discussion of the Terrible Triplets very interesting (and yeah, I agree they sound more like sixteenths).

As a ballad singer, I always felt that Eleanor Rigby and Blackbird were two of the finest songs to come out of the sixties.
