TR and American wilderness

I may surface at some point, but in the meantime I'm reading my big Christmas book: The Wilderness Warrior: Theodore Roosevelt and the Crusade for America.

A few years back I was given Theodore Rex, which was a straight biography of the 26th President. Brinkley's book focuses on Roosevelt's efforts to save America's wild places. I'm really going to enjoy this, I suspect.

Last summer we visited New York City and of course went to the American Museum of Natural History. I didn't realize just how much that place was associated with TR, although the bronze statue out front (attended by suitably docile bronze Indians) sort of gives the hint. Quotes on bronze plates all over the walls, the main hall named for him; AMNH is Teddy Roosevelt's House. '

If you ever make it there, the new space museum has an absolutely fascinating display on orders of magnitude.

Next add The Big Burn: Teddy Roosevelt and the Fire that Saved America to your must read list. Very interesting...and very controversial.
