Celebrate your age

My high school classmates have decided ordinary reunions are not enough. This Saturday they're holding a 60th birthday party for all members of the class, figuring that the majority of us have just hit or will soon reach that milestone.

If the event site was closer than 6,000 miles east I'd be there in a minute. Failing that, I volunteered to use my Picasa site to host photos of class members. If I can't be there, at least I can "see" some of those who will be.

Tell me about it!! In 2005, I managed to get back to Illinois for my 50th but that was the last time. Frankly, I can no longer cope with the hassle of going through the check-on procedure, the 8 hour flight back to Chicago, and the return trip. (The opportunity to rent a car and drive for 4 hours to get to Peoria without going in a circle is a treasure and will be greatly missed.) Flying used to be enjoyable when we moved to Hawaii some 40 years ago. It no longer is.

What you will miss is the opportunity to speak with those classmates. If you could hear their voices, you would be transported back to those high school years. It's almost as though they've never changed at all. :-)

Oy. Is that good or bad? I guess it depends on what your HS experience was like.

We moved across the continent and then the Pacific Ocean three days after graduation, so I've never spoken with or seen any of the roughly 300 people I graduated with since.

Hmmm......you're right. It does depend on your HS experience. Also the size of your class, I would imagine. There were only 74 in our class (the whole high school only had about 430 kids) and I'd been with them since 4th grade.

But mostly now, it's the travel experience. Flying is just not as much fun as it used to be. Maybe next time I go back to the Mainland, I'll see if Matson or Young Brothers has a passenger room on one of their cargo ships. I hear some cargo ships do and will book passage on them occasionally. That might be the best way to go. :-D

What a great idea. I graduated in a class of 410, and it would be good to see them more than once every 5 years.
