Not a single store? Really?

I live in a backward State. How can it possibly be that there's not a single source of commercial Sourdough Starter at any store here?

Not the veggie/organic place, not WalMart, not the Commissary, not Safeway . . . mail order it or make your own seem to be my choices. Making your own is tricky, apparently, so it comes down to ordering via Amazon or one of the big baking supply houses.

Humph.

Wow! I'd check around and see if you can find another baker who can give you some. Maybe Craig's list?

That's a thought.

Make your own...it's not rocket surgery:

Oh, it's easy enough to make. It's whether the resulting material is usable that's the question.

My experience with sourdough bread baking is that the new starter is OK but the older it gets, the better. Just tend it like your best friend and it will become a family treasure soon enough. Good luck!
