I don't get it. Why a duck?

Beats me. We do have an elevated highway that's called a viaduct locally, but...

Someone, maybe, who favors Lingle's double-decker highway on Nimitz over the rail...I mean, fixed guideway proposal? I dunno either.

Just to be clear, that was my bad Chico Marx impersonation.

Other than that, I got nothin'.

Grins. Not Groucho? Wasn't he the one with the magic word which, when said, would cause the duck to drop from above?

Indeed he was, but in The Cocoanuts, while Groucho was attempting to explain to Chico how to find the maguffin, with the aid of a map showing the viaduct, it was Chico who kept staring at him blankly and asking, "Why a duck? Why not a chicken?"

By the way, your blog is acting strangely. The right hand column of archives and such is not on top of the center column, overlaying the rightmost text. This started yesterday, I think. Anyone else mentioned it?

Ah. I've never seen that one.

I'm not seeing the problem you describe. Anyone?

I have great fondness for it, not least because it's the only movie where Harpo's wig is clearly red, not blond. It was red in vaudeville, but blond worked better on camera. Despite this, he kept getting character names that referred to his red hair, and is even described as a red-head a couple of times. So it's nice to have one movie where he actually is a red-head.

Also, in addition to the "Why a duck?" scene, it has a wonderful scene at the jail. Chico hadn't bothered to learn his lines, and kept repeating random nonsense. The male lead saved the day, crying out, "What? You mean a whole stream of things that I could never have deduced from what you just said?" It says a lot about filming with Chico that this is the best take they got, and it cracks me up every time.

Finally, I made the front page! Go me!

Are you sure Viaduct isn't a new local garage band somewhere? You can make your own bumper stickers on CafePress, you know.
