Well, at least the fan didn't chop the late rat into little pieces which fell into whatever you were cooking. ;) (the way I'm picturing all this, it sounds possible)

Sue, no, no, no. The range is a Jenn-Air circa 1981; the exhaust grill is between the two burner/grill units flush with the countertop, so it vents down through a pipe which goes through the floor and outside. It's not the overhead exhaust hood variety.

Years ago, there was a rat that got into our basement and couldn't get out again. The little creature (about the size of Ben) managed to die inside the wall. Same scenerio. And really hard to dispose of.
