Sunday afternoon music selection

There's a break between NPR's Weekend All Things Considered and the start of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball, so I think I'll start picking an album from my collection to listen to during that hour. This week's selection: Hollies Sing Dylan (that's the import; the American release was called "Words and Music by Bob Dylan"). This was apparently not well received at the time (1969), and if you believe the reviewers, it may have been the album that drove Graham Nash out of the group. I don't know how true that is, but if so, it was good for CSN fans, but not so good for the Hollies. I think it's a collection of dynamite interpretations. The tracks include: "The Times They Are A-Changin'," "I Shall Be Released," and "Just Like A Woman."

Oh cool! I didn't know that Nash was part of the Hollies! Wow, I learned something.

Nash was a founding member, as I recall. You can hear his voice on all the big hits ("Bus Stop," etc.)

Right-o. Graham Nash was the Hollies.

Ruminator, you must be a bit (or do I mean a lot?) younger than Linkmeister and me. Did you know that Crosby was in the Byrds? Did you know that Stills and Young were in Buffalo Springfield? Hell, did you know that such a thing as Buffalo Springfield existed?

Actually, I think he's about 4 years younger than I. He's just got a hole in his musical education. ;)

Loved Buffalo Springfield's "There's Something Happening Here, what it is ain't exactly clear..."
If you are playing 6 degrees of Separation you could do Clapton and all the bands he's been with..Cream, etc....

There used to be a great poster showing the family tree for CSN. It had all the spinoffs from the Byrds and Springfield.

I'll just nod my head and listen to you guys. I lived through it, but not much of the music genealogy stuck.
