This is a backgrounder on how Egypt got to where it is today by a guy who's an Associate Prof at UCSB teaching Int'l Studies. I can't vouch for the accuracy of his judgment, but he makes some damned interesting points about the cultures of different institutions within the country (military, police, intelligence).
