Think, Egyptians, think!

One of the weirder and less rational conspiracy theories about the backers of the uprising in Egypt has got to be that Israel is behind it. That's far from the case. The last thing Israel wants or needs is a new government in Egypt which might or might not continue to observe the 1978 peace treaty.

You'd think even thirty seconds of examination would put that theory to rest, but apparently not.

I doubt the people who started that rumor believe in it. It's probably just FUD disseminated by the pro-Mubarak groups (or the secret police, which may or may not be the same thing) to discredit the revolution in the eyes of all right-thinking, Israel-hating Egyptians. I'm not convinced the average Egyptian would fall for this nonsense.

It's the same kind of (lack of) thinking that allows Glenn Beck to postulate that Egypt's unrest is the first step towards the "Global Caliphate".
